Pictures of the WW II Memorial!

Dear Friend of the National World War II Memorial,
As you may already be aware, the National World War II Memorial has come under attack by a small group of people who are opposed to the placement of the National World War II Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, DC.

This small but vocal group has temporarily succeeded in halting the construction of the National World War II Memorial. They claim that the "vast majority of Americans" would be opposed to the Memorial being built on the center line of the National Mall.

Our opponents make this claim relying on the belief that most people will not publicly react to support this long-awaited project. They assume that you and your friends do not care as much about seeing this Memorial built on our National Mall as much as they do about seeing that it is never built on this site.

We need you to prove these people wrong!

We need you to show your support for this project!

We need you to contact your neighbors, friends and family -across the country- and ask them to show their support.

Let them know that the National World War II Memorial needs their help - ask them to take part in this vital project. How can you help?

1. If you live within driving distance of Washington, DC, register to testify at the National Capital Planning Commission's June 13, 2001 special hearing (beginning at 9:00AM) concerning the National World War II Memorial. Call (202) 482-7200 TODAY to sign up!

2. Write a letter supporting the Memorial to the Chairman of the NCPC. The NCPC must provide final approval of the site and design for construction to commence. Specific information about the hearing is attached - feel free to reproduce and forward the document to other supporters.

3. Write a letter to the editor of your local paper and one or more of the nationally known papers (The Washington Post, USA Today, etc.) Provide the address of the NCPC in your letter so that other readers will be able to show their support.

4. Write to any other individuals and organizations you think may be able to influence the successful completion of this project.

5. Involve your friends. More speakers and letters in support of the Memorial means more positive publicity and press coverage!

6. If you are attending the NCPC hearing, make signs and placards showing your support for the Memorial. Bring your friends, neighbors, and grandchildren!

7. If you cannot attend the hearing, participate in your local Memorial Day Parade, make signs and placards, ask your neighbors and friends to support this project!

8. Ask your club, church, temple, or other group for a couple of minutes to address the membership about the Memorial. Thank you for your interest and support of the National World War II Memorial. Your dedication and hard work are extremely valuable and very much appreciated!

Many papers post guidelines used to determine if a letter will be printed. The following is from The New York Times on line. "Letters to the Times should only be sent to the Times, and not to other publications. We do not publish open letters or third-party letters. When writing be certain to include your name, address and a daytime and evening phone number. Letters should be limited to about 150 words. We regret we cannot return or acknowledge unpublished letters. Writers of those letters selected for publication will be notified within a week."
